Heat and light

Two recent postings on this blog--"Some things you just don't tolerate" and "Tolerating analogy"--appear to have had my intended consequence and also an unintended consequence.

The intent was to bracingly lift up a basic theological truth: Sin--any sin--is something to lay down at the foot of the Cross in humble confession and repentance. Christians should no more be expected to accommodate sin than to ignore their Savior. That we both must, and can, bring our sins to Jesus Christ is part of the Good News we affirm.

An unintended consequence of the blogs for some was that my particular use of analogy generated more heat than light. Given that it is never my intent needlessly to alienate people, it has seemed gracious simply to remove the two postings, which I have done.

I regret whatever inelegance of my writing caused offense or obscured the shining truth that Jesus Christ has come to forgive and heal.
